GOOSE PYSANKA FROM UKRAINE. EASTER EGG. PYSANKA EGG

This auction is for one goose pysanka imported from Ukraine. It has a coordinated string and tassel. It is a real blown out goose egg that measures between 3-1/2" and 3-3/4". It is sold without the stand. The egg was handmade following the traditional "wax and dye" method. It is a lengthly method and takes longer the more colors there are on the egg and the more intricate the pattern.

In the wax and dye method, a pattern is outlined on the white egg using a pencil or a kistka -- the instrument used to draw with wax on the egg. After the pattern has been drawn, the egg is dipped in the ligthest color to appear on the egg, for example yellow. After this color is dry, all the portions of the egg that should be yellow are covered with wax. The egg is then dipped in the second color, for example green. Again, after this color has dried all the portions of the egg that will be green will be covered with wax. The method is continued until all the colors that one wants to see on the egg have been used and until the egg is entirely covered with wax. At the end, the wax is removed from the egg and the design appears.

The colors and symbols on the egg have meanings. The primary colors are red, yellow, orange, black and white. Brown, green, blue and purple are used mostly as accent colors. Black signifies eternity; white is innocence and purity; red is passion and joy; yellow is for the life-giving sun; orange combines the warmth of the sun with the warmth of the heart, brown and green are the colors of the earch and spring; blue is good health and purple is faith and trust.

The egg (without stand) is offered at the minimum bid of $14.45 and $2.95 for shipping and handling per first class postal mail. I combine shipping for multiple purchases. For purchases of $50 onwards, shipping is free. The egg is shipped within 24 hours after receiving payment per Paypal or per money order.
