Here is a newly finished 2.8 length Hocchiku all natural shakuhachi made in the lineage of Watazumi, the Komso Monk who brought the experience of playing the shakuhachi back to it's origins by playing the highly refined Zen Honkyoku music on organic yet fully functional instruments. his fine flute has an expansive wide range in dynamic one color. One can feel the wide vibrations. I is a long bass flute so it is better for the exerienced player or taller person (see my Hocchku 3.0 auction videos for an idea on how o hold and play teh long flutes). This Hocchiku, like all properly made Hocchiku, works into the third octave Ha notes so it can be used to play the Dokyoku music of Watazumi. I sudied he crafting of Hocchiku in Japan under Kinya Sogawa, who studied Dokyoku under Yokoyama Katsuya, who studied under Watazumi himself. A flute like this one usually starts at $675 directly.     In 2002, I received combined grants from both the Japanese and American governments to live in Japan to specifically study shakuhachi making. I studied crafting under Kinya Sogawa who was a live-in apprentice to Chikusen Tamai, the famous maker who apprenticed Hoshi Bonchiku, Yamaguchi Shugetsu, Tom Deaver and other professional Japanese makers today. Kinya also studied shakuhachi music under Katsuya Yokoyama, who studied under Watazumi himself. My understanding of making and playing evolves daily. I see that it will take a lifetime (or more) to master this wonderful and unique instrument.     Instruments are usually shipped within 24 hours or sometimes 48 hours after notification of payment. All instruments are usually packed in USPS supplied boxes but I try to do my part in saving the Earth by recycling when I can.
