Automatic Distributed Load Center
The Generac Guardian Models come standard with a pre-packaged transfer switch load center to select individual circuits which will be used during emergency operation. Installation is easy and inexpensive. The Model 5243 includes a 16 circuit panel, a 30 foot, and a 2 foot pre-wired conduit, a pre-wired external connection box and UL Listed wire nuts as standard equipment.

With our pre-packaged, air-cooled systems, all you have to do is match the circuits in our automatic transfer switch to those in your home’s main distribution panel. Then, simply total the number of circuits and correlate that to the generator that best matches your needs. There is absolutely no reason to calculate wattages, since you’ll never use all of your appliances at once. That’s why GUARDIAN leads the industry in creating powerful, yet economical and easy to install emergency standby generators.

How it Works
View "How it Works" Video
GUARDIAN® Standby Generators are completely automatic, helping to ensure that you remain safe from the negative and potentially harmful effects of power loss.
1. The GUARDIAN system automatically and continuously monitors incoming power from the utility line.
2. When utility power is interrupted, the control system in the generator automatically senses the loss of power and signals the generator to start.
3. The automatic transfer switch safely closes off the utility line and simultaneously opens a new power line from the generator.
4. Your GUARDIAN generator supplies electricity to the critical circuits you previously chose to back up.
5. When utility line voltage returns, the system transfers the electrical load back to the utility line. The generator continues to run for an engine cool-down period of several minutes and the entire system stands ready for the next power outage.
To ensure the system is always ready when you need it, your generator will run a 10-12 minute self-test cycle every week.
