Instructions book and CD for The Bluegrass Style Guitar Method
VOLUME 3 - There are slow and faster recordings to practice along with. The guide instrument will be on the right side of your stereo, so it can be isolated for further study or eliminated altogether, so that you can be the guitar player in the band. There are basic and intermediate arrangements to start your soloing, followed by more advanced, intricate breaks, many in the upper registers on the neck, to keep everyone challenged. These solos are not the same old ‘run of the mill’ type found in most books at the music store, but are well thought out, smooth, practical ways to play breaks to some of the most popular bluegrass songs found in jamming situations all around the country. These solos, especially the harder ones, are patterned after the most brilliant professional players in the business like, Tony Rice, Bryan Sutton, Dan Crary, Jay Buckey (Who?) and others.
The vocal work on these songs is OUTSTANDING making this volume of ‘Virtual Band’ the closest thing to playing with real people available. Instead of only instrumental breaks, (mandolin, fiddle, guitar, banjo, etc.), you will be sharing the honors of soloing with others in a more supporting role to the singers. Full, professional style, guitar back-up behind the vocalist, is included with the songs.
A special section at the end of the book has been added to help you start developing your own personal style, ‘Learning To Improvise-Part 1’. This portion of the book will give you the tools necessary to sit in with others in a jamming situation and play songs that you may never have practiced before or even heard. Two parts will be covered: 1. 'Getting A Feel For Chord Changes' and 2. 'Creating a Solo Spontaneously'.

VOLUME 4 - Included in the program is the continued discussion of 'Learning To Improvise (Part 2)'. This informative portion includes an expanded coverage of chords and how they are placed in a song. Also, the minor pentatonic scale, the one that makes a solo sound HOT is illustrated. Some of the songs chosen for this volume reflect this theory. Two other sections are included: 'Gaining Confidence When Playing With Others' and 'Performance Notes', rounding out another outstanding musical program.

VOLUME 5 - This fifth volume of Virtual Band for Guitar Method is based on many request for a collection of popular gospel tunes that are heard in jamming sessions at bluegrass festivals. Because many gospel tunes are played in a slower to medium tempo, they are excellent examples for practicing back up behind the vocalist. Although guitar solos are included, the back up portions are carefully transcribed to help give you a sense of professional rhythm. Rather than just 'strumming' chords, you will find many tasteful bass runs, hammer-ons, and various right hand rhythm patterns that will give your rhythm back up a more 'personal; feel. The symbols for picking up and down are included to help clarify the direction of the pick.
Crosspicking, using the flatpick in the motion of a banjo roll, can be found in the solos of What A Friend We Have In Jesus, Rank Stranger and Life Is Like A Mountain Railroad.
Double Stops, playing a solo with two notes at a time, are featured in the songs, High On A Mountain Top, In The Sweet By And By, Life Is Like A Mountain Railroad and Sweet Hour Of Prayer.
‘Carter Style’. You will also enjoy the old-timey solo found in the song, Will The Circle Be Unbroken. The melody is played with the bass notes and chord strums between the longer melody notes. This style was popularized many years ago by Mabel Carter. These various styles and techniques will give you additional ideas for other songs you may know and make your solos sparkle.

VOLUME 7 - The song selection this time is a bit more varied from the previous projects and they are not strictly ‘bluegrass’. In addition to the hard core bluegrass songs like, ‘Remington Ride’, tunes like, ’Milk Cow Blues’ will get you into that boogie woogie swing feel with a really hot bass line. ’Sleep Walk’ will take you back to the 50’s and the dreamy feel of ’Fiddler’s Last Waltz’ with it’s jazzy style guitar chords will make your, ’G chord’, picking buddies take notice.
To round out the program material, there are some hot bluegrass banjo tunes, some Irish and gospel. All are arranged with sparkling, clean, and easy to follow solos. The singing songs, like 'Someday Soon', come with complete, detailed transcriptions of the instrumental back up behind the vocals. Each Volume has specific arrangements unique to THAT instrument that will match the other instruments.

VOLUME 8 - This project is jammed full of great songs that you will give you hours and hours of enjoyable practice and performance. This Volume contains some really great songs ranging from Old Time, Bluegrass, Swing/Jazz, Irish, Country, Fiddle and Banjo tunes and Gospel. There is something here for everyone in your band. The arrangements are for the intermediate to advance player. The recording includes two versions of each song, a complete arrangement with a full band back up and a second arrangement with the Guitar completely removed so that you can play along.
