GUN STOCK DUPLICATOR Model One
This is an amazing tool that will allow you to carve identical gun stocks from an original stock, and do it efficiently and quickly. Made of welded steel construction, it is extremely rigid and stable... and built for a lifetime of use. This machine will carve objects up to 8 inches in diameter, and any length desired. Length can be easily extended! Ball bearing guides move effortlessly on steel shafts in Three Dimensions while a router fitted with a carbide bit does the cutting. A nylon tipped guide pin follows the contour of the original with surprising ease. While not a substitute for fine hand craftsmanship, this duplicator will allow you to cut a stock from a blank block of wood that needs only a final sanding to be finished. The duplicator will make cutouts for the trigger mechanism and barrel with ease, identical to the original. The pictures are of a Hawken rifle stock that I duplicated in walnut. This Duplicator will also carve small items, such as pistol grips, with ease. Also pictured is an old Springfield hand guard I carved from walnut.
Simply a wonderful tool for the hands-on person who wants to do his own work. The turning mechanism allows for the rotation of the gun stocks a full 360 degrees, in unison, then they can be locked solidly in position for carving with the twist of a knob. Cutting can be done in three dimensions effortlessly. Setup is accomplished in a matter of minutes on your own table... I like to use a 34" wide piece of Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF), but 3/4" plywood or particleboard is excellent also. Comes complete with a premium router (Ridgid brand), cutting bits, guide pins, instructions... All you need to supply is the table or plywood to mount the mechanism, the steel side rails (available locally everywhere for about $35), and you can start carving. We can supply case hardened steel shafts for additional cost.
Small blocks of plywood are attached to the original stock, and the butt end is clamped in the holder. Similar blocks of wood can be attached to the new piece to be carved, or it can simply be cut long to fit into the holder, with the extra wood cut off after carving. The speed of your work depends on how closely the blank is trimmed beforehand, and also individual experience as you become more proficient. I carved my first Rifle Stock in less than an hour. A handle is lightly held by the operator and the cutting bit follows the detail of the original exactly while the operator makes passes back and forth (or side to side) to remove excess wood. Simple manual operation allows you to proceed at your own speed. Cutting bits are easily changed to suit the carving. Three different carbide bits come with the machine, each one with a matching guide pin.
The Duplicator is very easy to operate and very forgiving... you just can't make mistakes. The best feature is that this duplicator is not limited to gun stocks! Will carve new pistol grips superbly. Ball and Claw chair legs (one is pictured), Guitar necks, architectural millwork, virtually anything that will fit within the dimensions of 8" diameter can be duplicated. Need a Duplicator to handle wider items up to 16" wide, or even wider? See our 'Model Two' listed under "Sellers Other Auctions". This is not a lightweight hobby tool, but rather a superbly built machine for serious production work on a wide range of carved wood items. Comes with a Ten Year Warranty (One year on the router). We would be happy to make one for you. We manufacture these Brand New here at our shops in Albuquerque. Usually ships within two weeks. Want to ask some questions in person?
