This high quality piece comes from my personal collection of 600+ game worn College, ABA and NBA basketball jerseys, uniforms, shorts and warm-ups. I have been a collector of basketball memorabilia for the past 34 years and during that time I've accumulated one of the largest basketball collections in the world. Included in my collection are 60+ ABA pieces including Marvin Barne's St. Louis Spirits home and road jerseys, Julius Erving's Virginia Squires home jersey, Moses Malone's Utah Stars road jersey and Floridian's home and road uniforms. As you can imagine my house is bulging at the seams with basketball memorabilia so recently I made a decision to start thinning it down in order to make it more managable. Selected from one of the finest basketball memorabilia collections in the world I offer you the following:
You are bidding on a Gus Williams Seattle Supersonics game worn road jersey. "The Wizard" wore this jersey during the Sonics 78-79 championship season. Gus, a 6' 2", 175 point guard from Southern California, was drafted #20 overall by the Golden State Warriors in the 1975 NBA draft. Gus played two seasons for the Warriors averaging 11.7 and 9.3 points per game and helped lead the Warriors to the NBA championship in his rookie season. After two seasons with the Warriors Gus signed on as a free agent with the Seattle Supersonics and there began his rise to NBA stardom. "The Wizard" played six seasons with the Sonics averaging 18.1, 19.2, 22.1, 23. 4, 20.0 and 18.7 points per game. In his second season in Seattle Gus led the Sonics to the NBA championship and was selected the finals MVP. After six seasons with the Sonics Gus was traded to the Washington Bullets where he averaged 20.0 and 13.5 PPG then played one final season in Atlanta. During his eleven year career Gus played in two NBA All-Star games and was First Team All-NBA in 81-82 and Second Team All-NBA in 79-80. Gus's jersey is green and is trimmed in gold/white/gold on the arms and neck. Except for the letters on the back, all letters and numbers (#1) are screened on which was typical of Sonic's jerseys and warm-ups during this era. The name on the back (WILLIAMS) is sewn on tackle twill which dates this jersey to the Sonics championship season. The jersey is manufactured by Sand Knit and is size 44. The jersey shows definate game wear and appears to have no alterations of any kind. The jersey comes with a COA from renowned jersey authenticator, Lou Lampson.
