When my mom was still alive, she always told me to “Get a Real Job!” Remember that old TV show? Well... Even though I am not old enough, I sure heard about it!
Guess I never did get a “Real Job.” Now, I’m a slave to eBay!

One of My Better Songs ~ If Ya Like Ballads.

>Told Ya I Write Embellished True Stories!
Aspen Fest in Ruidoso, NM where I used to live. Over 7,000 Bikers roll into that small mountain town every fall. My Artist friend got beat up bad trying to defend the local bartender. In my version, he wins!

· A Song For You © 1977
Another Acoustic Tune. A Sweet & Simple Love Song.
Acoustic 6 & 12 String Guitar, Bongos & Mandolin
>My producer & other band members talked me into adding this one. It’s one of the first songs I ever wrote, waaay back in 1973! Think I only knew three chords then! But it sure works!
· Build A Fire © 1984
A Rockin’ Tune with Killer Leads!
6 & 12 String Guitar, Electric Bass, Drums, Key Boards & Mandolin.
>I wrote this when I first moved to the mountains in New Mexico. It’s not as embellished as most of my songs. It may even be True Story!
· Second Time © 1982
Love and Lost Love... Not Again!
6 & 12 String Guitar, Electric Bass, Drums, Key Boards & Mandolin
>I wrote this for a friend who kept going back to the same guy! Some People Never Learn! OH WOW! The Thurman Brothers really backed me up with some “Perfect Harmony” on this one! Another one I was “Pressured” to add to the album because everyone loved it so much.
· Gypsy Lover © 1996
6 String Guitar, Key Boards, Electric Bass, Drums & Mandolin
*The only song I put on this album that I co-wrote with my Partner & Mentor ~ Jim Daniel. We have written lots of songs together over many years. He’s a Very Successful Writer & Excellent Musician, to say the least. He is also the one who came up with the name for our band, “Poetic Justice.”
· I Should Have Written That Song © 1991
Acoustic 6 & 12 String Guitar, Electric Bass, Drums & Mandolin
>The only song I ever actually wrote focusing on One Specific Genre. Great Harmonies! Fun Song!
*Haven’t Ya Ever Heard A Song On The Radio That Felt Like It Was Telling Your Life Story?
· The Joke’s On Me © 1989

· Amour For The Lord © 1981
Hard, Rockin’ Gospel Bluegrass

>I think I Must Have Kicked Some A-- on Mandolin Here! At least everyone thought so! Bluegrass & Folk Music are my roots. I raised my kids at Festivals & we used to play the Sunday Morning Gospel Shows. Thought I should throw at least one tune on!
*Listen for the Triplet in my last MANDOLIN lead!
I didn’t even know I could do that! fun! Fun!

My Timing...
At the time this album was produced, it was released on cassettes because CD’s were not quite ready for the market. A huge party at the La Fonda Hotel on the Square in Santa Fe announced my accomplishment.
Unfortunately, I just missed the big CD surge!
I have now had it Copied onto CD’s using the Publicity Photos I wanted to use the first time! I was outnumbered and pressured by my producer & others to allow him to have me dressed up and made-up for the cassette cover. To this day, people still look at me and ask, “Is this really you?”
Of course, I always answer the same way, “This is me in real life.”
That had to have been the biggest mistake of my life!
I am not and have never been the “Barbie Doll Type.”
I Have The Pen!
I call my songs “Embellished True Stories” because that is what I write.
This was confirmed when I spent time as Staff Reporter for a local newspaper. Facts are facts & real life is never as exciting as fiction.
I have literally written thousands of songs… published hundreds… and I performed live for over 28 years. I have also published Short Stories, Essays and Poetry. All of It Fiction.
I received my first check from ASCAP in 1974. It was $3.10.
I framed it and I still have it!
So…
Yes, I am a writer and I have a free license to write anything I want because I HAVE THE PEN!

Every musician’s most dreaded question is:
“What Kind of Music Do You Play?”
AND
Most every musician I know plays a variety of styles, falling into many different genres. I know I do!
Perhaps this is because I grew up playing in local bars and I raised my kids on Rock & Roll, Bluegrass & Folk Music. I’ve played everything from Hank Williams to Jackson Browne to Meatloaf to Jefferson Airplane!
.
It All Began with a $40.00 Mandolin.
I never had a lesson in my life and I still haven’t. I loved the Mandolin because I knew if I could learn the basics, I would make her cry and make her shout!
Therefore, I did!
I learned from watching. You know, the “Monkey See-Monkey Do” method. Self-taught, I played Mandolin behind other bands for over 12 years. I never really had a desire to play Guitar, but I was a Writer! I needed a rhythm instrument.
It was easier on Guitar than Mandolin to play my own songs & teach them to others in the band.
*I Had Never Played Mandolin On ANY Of My Own Songs Until I Was In The Studio Recording This Album!
What a Kick! No One, Including me, had any idea how that would turn out.
Over the years, I’ve played in Bands, Trios, Duos, and finally Solo.
Playing alone is definitely the hardest because there is no one there to lean on or cover your inadequacies.
*THE FINAL SONG ON THIS ALBUM IS A CONTRIBUTION TO MY YEARS AS A FOLK~BLUEGRASS MANDOLIN PLAYER.

“POETIC JUSTICE”
After all that time playing cover tunes, I felt I had earned the right to perform my own songs. I was tired of being compared to Stevie Nicks or Tanya Tucker or whoever… I had already been playing alot of my own songs anyway, mixing them in with Mr. Bojangles, Poncho & Lefty, Meatloaf Tunes etc.
After years of hard work - many days of working 2 jobs, raising 2 kids, making demo tape after demo tape, and lots of prayers, I found myself in a studio cutting my first album!
“Poetic Justice” is a mix of genres.
These 10 songs cover a period of 20 years. Do you have any idea how hard it is to pick 10 songs from almost a 1000? I let myself be heavily influenced in this area too. The songs range from a couple of the first ones I ever wrote in the early ‘70’s: (Song for You & Second Time), to songs I wrote while I was actually in the studio recording, (Livin’ Life for Riley).
My second album was ready to be recorded before I had finished this one.
The Title Cut is “QUEEN OF THE Gypsys” which is published by Writer’s Digest Books – “88 Song Writing Wrongs and How to Correct Them.”
I knew I did not want to allow others to influence my song choices and arrangements like I did on this first album, so I went back to school and studied Audio – Video Production at the Art Institute in dallas.
I Hope That You Will Be Touched By One Of My Embellished True Stories.
I now know that if I can bring an emotional reaction to the surface in just one person in the audience… that is enough.
Thank you for taking time to read this & allowing me to share my story.
A Good Song Lasts Forever
Like a Good Friend!
