Out of the box a good radio however the internal speaker FAILED day one. The enhancements work as advertised and take some getting used to as far as operating. Am waiting for additional parts for the station in order to make DX contacts on SSB, From the contacts I DID make so far all reports have been Q5. Radio has a HUGE dial that is easy to read, all board functions operate well. Did have to "turn down" the output power to drive my amp and other than the FAILING INTERNAL SPEAKER,this radio works as advertised. While its NOT a Uniden Grant XL it has other features that surpass the uniden.I would recommend this radio for a fixed (base) station but as for mobile application it IS a little flimsy on the case metal for such rugged application. Audio is good and modulation is good as well. Over all out of 5 stars I would rate this radio a "4"Read full review

All in all a VERY good radio! Very good audio on transmit and receive. The AGC is the best I've ever seen... a very weak AM signal sounds almost as loud as a close in signal. On SSB the GNF function can help yank the background noise so you can hear stations better. I have a 2011 model and the SWR light problem where it would alert you falsely has been corrected. My ONLY fault (why i gave it a 4) is that it is VERY finicky with antennas. The antenna TYPE even can make it mad and not push full output power. SWR levels that would make many radios work fine makes the 949 upset. It is too hasty to "fold back power". Also, the modulation was too low from the factory. Thankfully Galaxy has the adjustment points at their website, and the adjustments are EASY to do, the components to adjust are large, heavy duty trimmers, instead of fragile ferrite slugs. The talkback is a nice feature. you can make sure your microphones are adjusted right. This radio can be tweaked to your needs.. really flexible, and an attractive radio too, with a nice large meter that lets you know what is going on.Read full review
I’ve owned many Galaxy radios, most of them 10 meter rigs and as far as CB goes, this 949 is one of the best, most ruggedly built radios a man could own. This being a channelized CB, a freq counter is not needed but the good folks at Galaxy put a plug on the back where if an operator wanted one he could get one and easily plug it right up. My 949 would swing 32 watts on AM and SSB. It would drive hell outta my Texas Star DX 500 and if I could hear em, I could work em! Bought my brand new 949 for almost what they’re asking for this one but you can’t go wrong with a Galaxy 949!

I wanted a great performing rig. I pulled this out of its box and connected it to my system. The radio performs just as described. I am now one of the big radios in my area. Thanks for offering this awesome unit.
