Description: 3 genuine antique engraving & etching from Harper's Weekly: A Journal of Civilization on newsprint as published in Harper's on September 9, 1865.
Date: 1865
Size: Sheet size - 11" x 15 1/2" (28 x 39 cm)
Condition: Etching and engraving on paper. Good sharp impression in GOOD state (average appearance for 144 year old document which may have uneven moderate age toning, minor foxing, minor staining and/or handling smudges, tiny closed margin tears which do not affect the print). Text on verso.

Other Notes: On August 18, 1865, Galena celebrated the return of its Civil War hero General Ulysses S. Grant. Following a jubilant procession with much flag waving and speeches, a group of Galena citizens presented the General with a handsome furnished house on Bouthillier Street. The house is managed by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency as the U.S. Grant Home State Historic Site. (granthome.com)

The acorn jewelry in the upper right print was given to Mrs. Grant. According to descriptive text, "the wood used in this set was cut from the apple-tree under which Gen Grant's officers met Gen Lee on the morning of the surrender, April 9th, 1865, Appomattox C. H., Va."
