Offering a Thomson Alternating Ammeter No.85318 Type P.....Description under glass reads: Thomson Alternating Ammeter General Electric Co USA Pat. July 16, '95 Apr 2, 1901.......Base wood appears to be polished mahogany (just a guess) the wood is in great condition...the back is missing 4 brass wood screws and unit was obviously opened in the past......the black metal housing is actually black anodized brass..(I have seen these meters with the black removed and the brass highly polished).......I placed an electric heater load on the instrument and the needle moves up but is not consistent and sometimes sticks.......there is a crack in the window glass....this would only be suitable for display purposes but is a good example of early electrical test equipment.....the Thomson company was the Thomson Houston Company that later merged with the Edison General Electric Co to form the General Electric Co in 1892 in Lynn Massachusetts. this is a nice piece of history for a collector.
