To smudge is to purify with smoke, from sacred plants and herbs. These plants bring positive influences into a space. The herbs are lit, the flame is gently blown out, and the smoke envelopes the room, object, or person it is cleansing. Sage is burned to drive out evil spirits, negative thoughts, and feelings.
