German Five Mark Cut Coin Necklace

 

This German five mark coin was made a few decades ago, and out of silver, and now a craftsman with decades of coin-carving experience, has hand cut out the coin (the darker area you see within the coin's rim.)  After a few holes have been drilled through the surface, the eagle engraving has been cut around with a tiny jeweler's saw, leading to this stunning necklace.

 

It is a real Germany silver coin, and is not cast or machine created. The eagle design appears to be floating within the coin's rim, but is securely attached with a few special cuts leading to this stunning piece. The connections are thicker on the back side than the front side, providing this look.

The coin is just about the size of a U.S. Half dollar.  The necklace is antique silvertone color, with "c" spring hood clasp.
