GHUBARA L5 XENOLITHIC METEORITE
The Ghubara Meteorite Individual in this auction is shown in the photographs below. This as found specimen weighs 47.4 grams and has a great shape. Meteorite will come with a (signed) description card. Retail value of Ghubara is about $2.00 a gram, making this a $5,000 plus stone.

The Ghubara meteorite was found during 1954 on the surface of the desert in Ghubara, Jiddat Al Harasis, Oman. Since the original find 1000's of specimens have been recovered, possibly over 500kg. The largest sample weighed 101.6kg. before it was sectioned for study by the British Museum. Ghubara has been classified as an unusual L5 black chondrite, and subclassified as brecciated and xenolithic. Xenolithic means it is composed of different mixed lithologies. In other words, inclusions within the matrix that are unrelated to the host matrix itself. Two meteorites in one! This is visible on some Ghubara slices as white matrix inclusions.

Stone meteorites, like the Ghubara meteorite here, are made of mostly olivine and pyroxene. This is a stone chondrite meteorite, named such because of the many tiny chondrules seem as small round inclusions in the Ghubara thin section above. (Field of vision about 10 mm.)

Here is another photo from my Ghubara thin section, this photograph is from the same thin section as the photo before it. A large pyroxene chondrule is seen here with several light colored inclusions (olivine), scattered about. Shown through my microscope under polarized light. (Field of vision about 2mm.)
