Description:
This is a very, very nice 1956 Gibson ES-175 in a tobacco sunburst finish. It is completely, (100%) original and has all of the features of a 1956 ES-175. It has one P-90 pickup. The tuners are original and it has the original pickguard. The overall finish is in quite good condition with light finish crazing that one would expect from a guitar of this period. It has some scratches around the input jack, a couple dings on the back body and some dings and small chips on the front of the head, some finish chipping around one of the front f-hole cutaways, and it has the Gibson-prone fine hairline crack at the place where head and neck join. There is no movement in it, and it does not go all the way through. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so you can view this area for yourselves here.
The guitar is also accompanied by its original brown 'marbleized' hard shell case... ... Please also see the "Detailed Close-Ups" below.
. . . the above being said....
...the structure of this guitar is sound, it looks very nice in real life and plays and sounds fantastic! If I may wax poetic for a moment... playing licks and riffs on this Gibson ES-175 feels like 'slicing warm butter': Quick and Easy, Soft and Smooth. When you handle it, "you know you got a cream-puff." This is a real jazz guitar and amazing as a mellow-singing rock guitar as well. Here is what Steve Howe (from the group, Yes) said in an interview with RollingStone.com: "… I use ES-175 Gibson models in Yes mainly…What I do in Yes is quite soft and floaty, and kind of meanders a lot…"
Once you have played this guitar you will see why it is considered to be one of the best designs Gibson has ever made and why guitar greats like Pat Metheny and Steve Howe choose this model as their main guitar! The sound response of this guitar is subtle but wide, fat, and great for any type of music from rock, blues, to jazz!! The resonant body sound that this model has, is unique and amazing!! You have to hear it to know what I mean. Sassy... this guitar is ready for action!

For the collectors out there, we have documentation of this guitar's ownership from 1961 to today. The new owner will get these papers as well. There is a real interesting letter from the previous owner... a nice conversation piece.
Pricing the Priceless:
We have not included a "Buy It Now" price because a guitar like this has an intrinsic value that can only be understood by the musician and his/her instrument. In a sense, it becomes a priceless extension of the artist... if you have a "relationship" with your guitar, you'll know what we mean. Therefore, we will let the natural course of the auction have its way... You, the bidder, will determine the value of this beautiful guitar.
Buyer pays $75 to pack, ship and insure within the Lower 48 States. Explanation of Handling/Shipping/Insurance Costs: Ebay now mandates that the seller cannot offer insurance to the buyer, but must either provide it or not. This makes it a bit of a guessing game for the seller (whether the buyer wants to take the risk or not). Since the rules have changed, and we must make the determination up front. We will, therefore, be providing insurance in order to protect this valuable asset until it arrives safely in the hands of the buyer, and our shipping and handling charges will reflect the cost of that insurance.
Bidders in Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and International Bidders will incur a higher shipping cost depending on the ship-to destination.
If your shipping destination will not be within the 48 States, please contact us for a shipping and handling quote. We do not want you to have any additional cost "surprises". _________________________________________________________________________________________
