One of the few genuine Swiss 'manufactures', Girard Perregaux has supplied leading Swiss brands such as Cartier, Vacheron Constantin, Piaget and Ebel with its thin calibers 3000 and 3100. When making their own watches the company often uses their own calibers though they will also use a painstakingly reworked A. Schild or ETA movement. Girard-Perregaux has proven themselves to be a master of technically demanding pieces.
The featured watch is a Girard Perregaux Limited Edition 18K White Gold BMW Oracle R&D 01 Perpetual Chronograph in a 43mm Case. It has a Black Dial with a Carbon Fiber motif, a Silver Inner Rotating Bezel with a 60-minute scale, Silver Subdial rings, Luminous Arabic Numerals, and Luminous White Sword and Arrowhead Hour and Minute Hands at Center. Sapphire Crystal; White Gold Screw-down Crowns; White Gold Pushers; Caseback secured by 6 screws and engraved with a likeness of the Golden Gate Yacht Club's America's Cup Challenge boat and individually numbered. It has a Mechanical Movement with Automatic Winding; Girard-Perregaux Caliber. It performs the following functions: hours, minutes, subsidiary seconds; chronograph, perpetual calendar (date, day, month with leap year quadrant, 24-hour indication), and moon phase. Water-resistant to 50 meters.
Indications: month, with leap year quadrant in red (indicated by longer red hand) and minute counter (indicated by shorter white hand) at 3; date (indicated by longer red hand) and subsidiary seconds (indicated by shorter white hand) at 6; 24-hour indication (indicated by longer red hand) and moon phase (indicated by shorter white hand) at 9; day (indicated by longer red hand) and hour counter (indicated by shorter white hand) at 12; sweep chronograph seconds hand; rotating inner bezel controlled by crown at 4. It comes with two straps, one Black Rubber and one black Alligator, and two white gold deployant clasps (rubber strap with double-deployant clasp, and alligator strap with white gold single-fold deployant clasp).
Personal Note--It is no surprise that a company like Girard Perrregaux made an amazing watch out of gold that incorporates two highly complicated functions, the perpetual calendar and the chronograph. What is remarkable is the quality and finish as well as the easy legibility of the dial. Another thing I love about this particular watch is that it comes with both the hand stitched crocodile strap with an 18K White Gold deployment buckle, and a black rubber strap with another 18K White Gold deployment buckle. In addition to all of that, it has a very special serial number (call or email to inquire).
