The House of Givenchy, which opened in 1952 in Paris, was prominent throughout the 1950s and 60s. Its simple, elegant style was best epitomized by Audrey Hepburn. These earrings are a prime example of Hubert de Givenchy's Deco black and rhinestone pieces. These clip earrings are large, the outside dimensions are 1"x1 1/2". The large center stone is brilliant foiled emerald cut and measures 3/4"x9/16" and is flanked by black enameling. There are other small rhinestones. There are no missing stones. These earrings are pictured on page 38 of Costume Jewelers, The Golden Age of Design by Joanne Dubbs Ball.
