Many experts believe that the glycolic AHA is the most promising for skin rejuvenation because it has the smallest molecular size.
Glycolic peel removes a micro thin top layer of skin. Removal of these damaged cells stimulates cell division that results in plumper, healthier, newer cells. The glycolic peel procedure smoothes and softens the skin, diminishes fine lines, decreases acne, even out discoloration and increases moisture retention.
The result is a wonderful appearance of glowing, healthier and more youthful skin! |

What is Glycolic Acid? |
A glycolic peel or chemical peel uses a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. It is helpful for those individuals with facial blemishes, mild acne scarring, fine wrinkles and uneven skin. The alphahydroxy acid (AHA) glycolic acid, a mild peel, is used for this purpose. The formula used is adjusted to meet each patient's needs. A chemical peel can give you brighter, smoother looking skin. |
|
What does Glycolic Acid do? |
The peel acts by loosening the cohesive glue-like adhesion (glucosaminoglycans/GAGS) in the outer five or six layers of the epidermis. As these outer layers begin to loosen and exfoliate with daily skin care, new epidermal cells are produced. The "fresh" cells are healthier and more youthful. New collagen and elastic fibers are produced in the dermal layer of the skin. Over a period of time the skin surface begins to look younger and smoother. The restoration of the elasticity actually causes the disappearance of fine lines! |
|
Who should use Glycolic Acid?: |
Glycolic peels are highly recommended for all types of skin, especially mature skin that has been sun-damaged and is beginning to show signs of aging. |
This procedure can be preformed on the face, neck, chest, hands and even the arms and legs. For optimal results, peels are performed weekly over a period of six weeks. Most people notice a change in skin appearance and texture right away. Improvement continues over the course of the treatments revealing fresher, younger skin. Mild peels usually take about 20 minutes, making the procedure convenient and accessible at any time of the day, even the lunch hour!
This form of skin rejuvenation is highly recommended for all types of skin, especially mature skin that has been sun-damaged and is beginning to show signs of aging.
Glycolic Acid is generally regarded to be the most active and beneficial of the Alpha-Hydroxy-Acids (AHA) in skin care. Once applied, glycolic acid reacts with the outer layer of skin (epidermal) cells, weakening the binding properties of the lipids (the 'glue') that hold the dead cells together. This is the mechanism that allows the damaged outer skin layer to "peel" off to reveal the underlying new skin cells, thus giving your skin an even, untarnished texture. In addition, glycolic acid can penetrate into the new skin cell's membrane, stimulating them to generate collagen and elastic fibers that improves and strengthens the skin's condition.
Alphahydroxy acids (AHAs), including glycolic acid are the mildest of the chemical peel formulas and produce light peels. These types of peels provide smoother, brighter-looking skin for people who can't spare the time to recover the harsher phenol or TCA peels. Candidates for glycolic acid peels include individuals with:
· Superficial wrinkles of the face, neck, upper chest, arms, etc.
· Uneven pigmentation problems
· Enlarged facial pores
· Superficial acne scars of the face
· Age (liver) spots
· Areas of dryness
After treatment, the skin may be a transient pink discoloration that quickly returns to the normal color. On some occasions, there will be some minor flaking in a few localized areas, which are seen for a couple of days. Normally, the skin does not severely peel as compared to more invasive chemical peels (i.e. phenol).
