Jasminum officinale 'Fiona Sunshine" - Golden Poet's Jasmine

Described as 'Undoubtedly the best yellow leaved climber in the market today' The 'Golden Jasmine' flowers from May to September with its heavenly scented, white flowers. The yellow foliage starts in the spring with new growth tinged with red, summer brings the flowers and bright lush yellow foliage followed in autumn with the most glorious Gold colour lasting well into winter if mild weather permits. Excellent plant for growing on fences, arches and trellises. Grow in full sun or part shade in any good garden soil. Height and spread in 10 years 10' x 10'.
This new plant was discovered at the Fromefield Nurseries in 1989 in a batch of seedlings. The plant is derived from a golden seedling rather than a sported branch and has therefore, perhaps, no possibility of reversion to its typical state. It was decided after a period of trials at the nursery that the plant was distinct, stable and unique enough to apply for Plant Breeders Rights. It undertook trials at the MAFF Institute of Agricultural Botany at Cambridge (NIAB) and was granted rights in December 1993.
Both elements of the name describe the Jasmine to some extent. Fiona which is largely a Scottish name, can be traced back to the Celts. 'Fionn' was a warrior according to Celtic mythology and the name means 'Bright One' or 'Fair One'.
The plant has also been registered for European Plant Variety Rights, which were granted in December 1996.
They are hardy in zones 8-10. They also make an excellent house or patio plant.
CULTURAL REQUIREMENTS
Light: Bright light with some direct sunlight each day in eastern or western exposure.
Watering: Keep soil moist as Jasmine can easily wilt. When growth slows in winter, hold back on watering a bit more.
Temperature: Jasminum officinale var. grandiflorum blooms best with a cool night temperature.
Humidity: Jasmine enjoys extra humidity and benefits from daily misting, sitting on a tray of moistened pebbles and/or use of a humidifier.
Feeding: During the growing season, feed once a month with a standard water soluble fertilizer.
Transplanting: Jasmines prefer a fertile, well-drained soil consisting of one part sterilized houseplant potting soil, one part peat, and one part builder's sand or perlite.
Propagation: Take tip cuttings just below a node or heel cuttings (from sideshoots with a small section of main stem attached) in midsummer to fall. Grow cuttings in a pre-moistened light soil mix with extra humidity. Repot when rooting has taken place and treat them as mature specimens.
Maintenance: Continue to prune often, as they can be rampant growers.
The plant you will receive is growing in a 4.5" pot. It is well rooted, staked and about 8" tall.
