Golf Hall of Famer Betty Jameson ALS re Tournament

On bright blue stationary measuring 6.25” x 8” Betty Jameson pens an 8 letter to Fred Corcoran, her agent. There is fading in the color of the paper throughout in varying degree. Dated 20 October 1951, she writes: “Dear Fred, I received the cop of your letter to Bill Bellamy today, regarding the - of all things! – Betty Jameson Tournament. While I’ve laughed a little about it to myself (and know I’ll get quite a bit of kidding bout it from Peggy and the rest of the girls), I at the same time, feel very honored. And I will of course do what I can to insure its success. I, too, feel that before the women’s Texas Open would be a good date – before World Series and football conflict; but as you indicated we will see how the 1951 schedule shapes-up. / I definitely plan to play in Florida. And expect to play very well Fred! For I’ve make some astonishing and thrilling discoveries about the golf swing! “Astonishing” to me because I can’t believe I’ve been a thoughtful player all these years and yet have failed to learn long before this what I have in these past six months. / Thank you very much for recommending me to Mr. Treadway of Bristol. I am grateful. And we see what unfolds. I will talk with him probably in about ten days, as I’ve written him I will be in New York from October 26th until about November 1st or 2nd. I hope you are in town at that time – though I have the feeling that you’ll probably be at the Ryder Cup matches. At any rate, I will want to talk to you – will probably telephone “long distance” to you if it seems necessary. / One little L.P.G.A. matter which you may be able to advise me on – (but with I should not probably bother you with!!) – its regarding authorizing the purchase of a portable typewriter for the association’s secretarial work. I spoke with Patty and “the girls” about a good one I had to sell when it informally brought up that we need one. I think all that would be necessary is for you or Patty (as the president) to authorize the purchase. I will bring it to Florida this winter, anyway! / I thought of you often as I listened to the Giants and Dodgers Broadcast – and the World Series! Sorry the Giants didn’t pull all the way through!! But what a thrilling day in American sport the day they pulled that game, and pennant out of the fire in the last half inning of the last game! / I’ll be at the Barclay (111 east 48) from Oct 26 til November 1st or 2nd. Kindest regards, Always, Betty” The tournament was held on October 19, 1952 and was won by Louis Suggs.
