Thoroughly clean the club face with soapy water, get rid of the grit. 2. With a drawing stroke drag the blade across the grooves with the blades edge at a 45 degree angle for V grooves, for square grooves 20 degrees from vertical. 3. Make the first 3 to 4 passes slowly and without much force, then you can put more pressure into the stroke, after another 5 or 6 passes, you will see the bottom of the grooves getting shiny as the dirt is cut away, after a few more passes look again at the grooves and when the metal is very clearly showing hold the tool with just a slight angle from vertical. 4. Continue grooving until you feel extra resistance, this indicates that you bottomed out, in other words it is at 0.020" deep and the tools shape is resisting going deeper, at this point the width of the grooves at the clubs surface will be 0.035" Be satisfied with this and you will remain legal. It is important to understand that this procedure works better when a few drops of oil is introduced into the cutting area, any oil will act as a lubricant to assist the tool. 10- 15 minutes per head should be plenty to get the edges back into good condition if the club has not been treated since new. If regular servicing is carried out every 10-15 rounds then 5 minutes per head should the grooves in good condition. Your spin control will improve, and I hope you get many birdies as a result. | |||||||||||||
