Hi Folks, Up for auction is one of the Best Early just after the Civil War trunks we have had in some time. It features a neat tack decoration on the top of the trunk. It also features a solid brass lock that has several patent dates on it starting in May of 1854 up to 1868. The lock has a key that does activate the locking mechanism. Also present is the Original leather strapping and fasteners. These are the original leather we left them in tact to preserve the trunks originality, we suggest that they not be used much. The lock is more than enough to secure the lid. We used Antique Leather in our replacing of the handles and lid lift. The leather we use is strong and durable. Antique leather is a nice feature to help preserve the antique look of the trunk, which is not possible to do with the new reproduction leather handles. The trunks size is L = 26 inches, W = 16 inches, H = 17 inches.
The inside of this is Really neat with the Original lift out covered tray with also the drop down door in the dome part with the Rare Original French Lithographs. These are extremely hard to find especially in this condition. They do show some use through the years but that is to be expected for a trunk over 150 years old! Some of the interior paper covering was removed as it was flaking away. We sanded and finsihed the wood under it with three coats of top coat to a fine smooth finish. Since our trunks are finished and or Cleaned on the inside they never have mildew or musty smell. The bottom of the trunk is also finished nicely , this trunk never had wheel casters.
We employ a professional refinishing process on our trunks. We go the extra mile in the restoration process paying close attention to the details! The over all conditioned is considered to be in Excellent Condition for the age of the trunk. There are some age marks which are minor and contribute to the history Antique value of the trunk.
