Victorian Bustle Heirloom Look Costume / Gown

This is truly a stunning gown!

Perfect for theater, reenactments or even a wedding... I guess costume parties would not be out of the question either.

This is one of several gowns which we acquired from a closed costume / dress shop.

This Lovely gown is created in one 2 pieces.  The description and measurements stated here where on a card that was packed with the gown.  I found the images on a CD that was with a box of paperwork and patterns, which we also received in the auction.

The card did note that no commercial patterns were used, making this a one-of-a-kind garment.

Upper Bust:   38" to 39"
Waist:   31"
 Hem Length:     44"

The provided description read:

"No Commercial Patterns where used in the creation of this gown... it is a one-of a kind.

In the crafting of this gown was used a  lovely bridal satin, bridal taffeta and moiré taffeta in the soft, glowing shade of ivory.  And there are yards, and yards of fabric in this gown.  Added where several different types of beautiful ivory lace trims as well as a fancy pearl and braid edging which can be found on the cuffs as well as along the front edge of the skirt front.  This is a two piece gown which includes the bodice as well as the skirt.

To start with, the bodice is fully under lined in soft, cooling white poly cotton.  The shell (outside) is constructed of ivory moiré taffeta and then front trimmed with lace in an heirloom style.  It is back lacing over a privacy panel. (*)  The eyelet panel has been stiffened and reinforced as well.

The sleeves, also constructed of the moiré taffeta include lace insets both vertically and horizontally.  The lower cuff was then trimmed in matching lace and edged with the braid and pearl edging.

The skirt - we are very proud of and feel the many hours devoted to its design and creation have been rewarded in seeing the finished gown.  The main fabric of the skirt is soft, glowing ivory bridal satin.  The bottom skirt is cut to provide a bit of a train and edged in a wide, hand pleated, double edged ivory lace trim.  The top skirt over lay is fully under lined.  Its facing is of ivory bridal satin and has been treated in a large gathered fashion.  the bottom of this overlay has been treated with pleats of moiré taffeta and braid and pearl edging.  This overlay is fully attached to the skirt for ease in wear.

The bustle is also fully attached to the gown.  It consists of actually two layers of softly folded and gathered fabrics.  The upper bustle section is of beautiful ivory bridal taffeta.  The lower section which does end in a slight train is ivory bridal satin.  The fact that our method of gathering up the bustle allowed us to NOT use tulle netting to create a puff effect is an added bonus!  No "scrunching" noises when you sit!

As a final touch on this lovely gown, a lace sash and a double layered taffeta bow have been added to the back of the bodice to provide the perfect topper for your bustle."

The Original Tag also read $499.00

* Despite the listing, this dress does still needs its eyelet closures on the back, as well as a fastener on the skirt.  The bows and lace sash were with this, but they are not attached to the bodice, also, we do not see a privacy panel on the bodice.  The skirt, however, is already hemmed and trimmed.  I assume these were not done already, in order to be fitted to whoever bought it.  I would think it would be an easy finishing job for someone even with basic sewing skills... I have done eyelets myself, in the past, on some drapes, and all I needed was a knife and a hammer.  With the auction, I also got an entire case of gowns and garments that where cut out, but not put together... beautiful fabrics... my wife is trying to find a seamstress to work on these, and put them together, but we have not found one yet, or at least not one that can do it at a reasonable price.

In any case, because of this I think it is safe to say that this gown is new, or at least never worn.  The images also show a pearl necklace... this was not with the gown when we acquired it, so it is not included with this listing.

The gowns we will be shipping USPS Priority.  Because of their weight, it seems to work out better, usually, to send it in one of the flat rate boxes.  If you have any questions, or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us.  For more information on us, shipping and other bits, please check out our "about me" pages.  When I got this lot, I did receive some of the information and even a few pictures, but as far as the fabric content, I am sorry I do not know what it is.
