George Graham was born in 1674 in the small village of Cumbreland, England. He became an apprentice watchmaker in 1688. Seven years later he was admitted to the Company of Clockmakers and trained under other masters of his time. Though he died penniless, during his life Graham's research and innovative creativity would come to impact the watch world forever. In 1715 he invented the anchor escapement. Other inventions for which he is credited include the deadbeat escapement, the mercury compensation pendulum, the minute repeater with damper, and the chronograph! The Graham brand is Swiss but carries on old English watchmaking traditions with its limited annual production of exceptionally well defined chronographs. It is remarkable what Mr. Graham started and the watches made in his name are representative of his talent, innovation and master artistry and craftsmanship.
Nothing says 'fine timepiece" like the word "Overlord" in the title. This should be the watch of choice for all rising stars! With the functional and lume filled subsidiary seconds dial (bright red on pale green), this Graham Chronofighter Original Overlord watch is great. The best part is the look of the case and the dial, meant to remind you of the cockpit of mechanized war machines, or jet fighter or bomber aircraft of the past. The watch is named after a specific "Overlord" mission that was part of British Air Force history.
The look of the dial in the 43mm wide case is inspired from Hurricane and Spitfire aircraft interiors. The basic Graham Chronofighter watch theme is there in its full glory, complete with the large size and "granada" trigger-like chronograph pusher system. Inside the watch is an automatic movement. The quality of the Graham timepieces is quite good and they have a very solid feel. The Chronofighter Oversize Overlord is part of a limited edition of 250.
Personal Note--Not only is this watch an incredibly special pilot's watch, but it is an amazing watch in general and an excellent limited edition collector's piece. It is part of a small production release of only 250 worldwide. I love the dial as well, with it's boldly colored subdials and large white number which are so easy to read! This is the original version which is especially collectible and it is very rare and hard to find. A beautiful watch!
