Facts About Grandmas Lye Soap
The same kind of soap that folks made at home, long before soap was available in stores.
- All Soap, even liquid soap is made with either lye or a form of lye.
- Lye is what causes the saponification of the oils into soap.
- All of the lye is used up in the saponification process. No lye is left in the soap.

Our old fashioned lye soap produces a luxurious creamy lather just like what your grandma made. Old fashioned lye soap has been used as an all purpose soap for hundreds of years, and it is one of our most popular soap products. Try some today, you have nothing to lose! Some people are discouraged by a soap made from animal fat, this statement is based upon personal preference only. The fact is 98% of the animal fat is converted into pure soap and glycerin, it is perfectly safe to use. Some of the older people who have used grandmas lye soap their entire life and have a natural beauty without ever using cosmetics which contain toxic chemicals. Many people have used grandmas lye soap to clear up minor skin disorders; we make no such claims except it is pure homemade soap. One of our local customers reports this soap works wonders to relieve poison ivy while hiking on the Appalachian Trail. Our Grandmas soap contains 90% lard and a blend of 10% vegetable oil to improve the cleaning performance -this replaces Borax and wash soda. We also include a natural citrus preservative to keep our soap fresh for up to one year.
