A great 18TH CENTURY COUNTRY QUEEN ANNE SCROLLED MIRROR WITH BOTH TOP AND BOTTOM CRESTS, American or English, Circa 1740-1760. This great mirror has a wonderful fully developed scrolled top and bottom crests and great scrolled ears. In mahogany and pine. A nice feature is that this mirror is full cut mahogany rather than veneer. As you can tell by the photos, every single ear is original, both crests are original and THERE IS NO DAMAGE TO ANY OF THE CRESTS OR APPLIED EARS!!! every bit of the scrolled crest and ears are ALL INTACT!! This is quite unusual and rarely do you find them in such condition. The surface is an old refinish, you can see traces of the refinishing on the rear photos of the mirror.
This mirror is a great size. It is 26" tall and 14" across the widest part, the glass area is 9" by 16".
As the photos show, the mirror is a 19th century replacement, probably around 1850-1860 which is pretty common, I'd bet not one in fifty have the original glass. It does appear though that when they replaced the mirror they preserved the backboard. 19th century mirror is much thicker than the original 18th glass and when they put this one in they could not fit the backboard back in. Whatever the reason, there is a nice old period backboard that comes with this mirror. Also, you can see that when they replaced the mirror they applied brass corner supports. I took them off and the mirror is really tight, I did however put them back on.
This is a period QUEEN ANNE mirror of great quality and importance. The condition is very, very good and the form and shape are the best. The scrolled crests, top and bottom are fully developed and the carved side ears are early in form and perfect in condition.
