Superb vintage Bezalel style olive wood jewelry box, Israel, late 1940's, Judaica.
The hinged lid is beautifully adorned with desert scene including three camels, a shepherd and a tree, inscribed below in English "Jerusalem".
It opens to reveal a mirror and red fabric lined interior.
The base bears Israel tax stamp from the late 1940's as seen in the pictures.
An attractive piece which is an absolute must for any serious collector.

The Bezalel school was founded in 1906 by Boris Schatz, who shaped its character.
His approach stressed both the practical and the ideal.
His vision was to develop useful arts and crafts among Palestinian Jews, thereby decreasing the dependence on charity.
At the same time, he sought to inspire his students to create a Jewish national style of the arts, in order to promote the Zionist endeavor.
