Item specifics

Primary Material: PotteryType: Plate

This auction is for c1880 Griffen, Smith and Hill Etruscan majolica bread plate / tray. The size of the plate is approx 11 1/2 inch x 9 1/2 inch. The underside of the plate is  marked "Etruscan Majolica GSH" (see pic). Condition report: nice vivid colors and nice glaze , but this tray has some issues. 1. Twig handle is sadly missing. Apparently it broke off some time ago (the edges are smooth). 2. Middle of the plate - small area of glaze  missing /chip. 3. The rim feels a bit rough consistent with some wear off the glaze. 4. Small chips to the rim.  5. Overall crazing.

The Griffen, Smith and Hill pottery of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania produced some of the most collectable American majolica from 1879 to 1892.  Their designs were borrowed from nature using flowers, ferns, cauliflower, butterflies, sea shells, corn, begonia, maple, oak leaves, etc.

Low starting price and no reserve!
