SmartDeck is more than just a cassette adapter for iPod; it achieves truly seamless integration between iPod and cassette deck. Use the cassette deck's forward and rewind buttons to advance to the next or prior songs in the iPod playlist. Pause and stop buttons do what pause and stop buttons are expected to do. Hit the cassette deck's Eject button or switch from Cassette to Radio, and Griffin's SmartPlay technology automatically pauses the iPod.

Does not work with iPhone 3G.

* Note that some (but few) modern car tape decks may not support the use of cassette adapters. Test your car tape player with a cheapie cassette adapter or consult your car tape player user manual to confirm.

Also some newer tape players require a special procedure to enable the use of any cassette adapter (as opposed to convential cassette). For example, you may need to press the cassette button for 5 seconds while the radio is off. The word "ready" will appear and then you can install the cassette. If you don't do this, then the adapter will be ejected after 2 or 3 seconds of play or could make a lot of noise. Check your own owners manual for this option.
