SmartDeck allows you to control your iPod using the built in controls of your cassette player. Using patent-pending sensing technology, the SmartDeck determines which commands the cassette player sends to the iPod.

SmartDeck is more than just a cassette adapter for iPod; it achieves truly seamless integration between iPod and cassette deck. Use the cassette deck's forward and rewind buttons to advance to the next or prior songs in the iPod playlist. Pause and stop buttons do what pause and stop buttons are expected to do. Hit the cassette deck's Eject button or switch from Cassette to Radio, and Griffin's SmartPlay technology automatically pauses the iPod.

Why isn't it working in my car?

We went to great lengths to make the SmartDeck compatible with as many cassette players as possible, including factory and after market decks. Unfortunately, there are cassette players that will not work with the SmartDeck. If your SmartDeck is not working in your cassette player, please try it in another cassette player before contacting us. If the SmartDeck works in other cassette players, you may have a player that is not compatible.

Many times there is a special procedure to use when using a cassette adapter (rather than a conventional music cassette). For example, you may need to press the cassette button for 5 seconds while the radio is off. The word "ready" will appear and then you can install the cassette. If you don't do this, then the adapter will be ejected after 2 or 3 seconds of play or could make a lot of noise. Check your own owners manual for this option.

Why won't my 3G iPod Auto Play/Pause?

Unfortunately, 3rd generation iPods do not support this feature and will not repsond to the SmartDeck's Auto Play/Pause commands. This feature was made available with the release of the 4th generation iPods. This also affects your iPod earbuds, which on 4G iPods and later, will pause the iPod automatically when the they are removed
