Description
Fantastic set of three engravings depicting seashells by George Wolfgang Knorr. The actual provenance of these is unfortunately unknown. There is a tag on the back of one that reads "Knorr Nuremberg 1775" in handwriting. When we saw this we got all excited and ran straight down to the nearest art dealer we could find. He quelled our enthusiasm pretty quickly saying "well, these are DEFINITELY not from 1775". Rats.
However, he did say that they were likely early 20th century re-strikes from the original plates, and that they still had considerable value as decorative pieces. So, that's how we're selling them. They are dated as having been framed in 1975 - so they're at least THAT old!
Here is some information on George Wolfgang Knorr, taken from the George Glazer Gallery website (www.georgeglazer.com): "Georg Wolfgang Knorr was a German paleontologist, as well as a painter,
draftsman, engraver, collector and art dealer. At age 18, he became a
copperplate engraver for Leonhard Blanc, working with Martin Tyroff on
the illustrations for Jacob Scheuchzer's Physica Sacra
(1731). Later he engraved portraits, landscapes, geological
formations, and animal studies after Dürer and the Kilian family. In
the second half of the 18th century, Nuremberg overtook Augsburg as the
center of production for fine natural history books in Germany. There,
Knorr published scientific works distinguished by their beautiful
hand-colored plates. His works include two posthumous productions: Deliciae Naturae Selectae Oder Auserlefenes Naturalien Cabinet (1766-67), and Les Délices Des Yeux et de L'espirit, ou Collection Generale des Differentes Espèces de Coquillages (1764-73)."

For the most part, there are three different ways your piece can be shipped. Please consult the listing to determine the default method of shipping.
Greyhound Package Express:
This is a very economical, safe way to ship medium sized pieces.
Only pieces with dimensions less than 30” x 47” x 82" after packaging, and that weigh less than 100 lbs, can be sent via Greyhound.
The major disadvantage to shipping with Greyhound is that you must pick up your package at the nearest Greyhound bus depot.
Some stations offer local delivery, some do not. Call 800-739-5020 to find out if yours does.
Greyhound will hold your package for up to 3 days, after that they may assess a $2/day storage fee.
Packages shipped with Greyhound can only be insured for $300 per package. Additional insurance can be purchased from a variety of sources, try www.ramonins-usa.com or www.u-pic.com.
Providing additional insurance on Greyhound shipments, if desired, is the sole responsibility of the purchaser.
Packages shipped with Greyhound are NOT trackable. It usually takes packages 1-2 weeks to cross the country, although it CAN TAKE LONGER. We CANNOT guarantee the timeliness of packages shipped with Greyhound Package Express. However, we have NEVER had a package get lost.
Blanket Wrap Freight:
The best (and sometimes ONLY) way to ship large pieces of furniture.
We use Gary Lewis Trucking for most shipments up and down the west coast. Deliveries start at $175 for residential addresses and $125 for commercial addresses, and go up from there. Email us for an exact quote if one is not specified.
For other parts of the country, we use Plycon Van Lines. You can get an exact quote from them directly on their website: www.plycongroup.com. Generally, single piece shipping is between $350-450.
Expect that it will be 3-4 weeks from time of purchase before your piece is delivered to you if it is shipped via freight.
Pieces shipped this way are automatically insured for 100% of their value.
Bax Global:
Think of Bax Global as Fedex's big brother who's cheaper and doesn't break stuff.
We use Bax Global when shipping medium-sized pieces to your home, and with all international shipments.
Pieces are automatically insured for their full value.

Fedex:
We ONLY use Fedex with small-medium sized pieces that are not breakable. Fedex is very rough with their packages, and we only trust them with stuff that's practically indestructible.
Pieces are automatically insured for their full value, but good luck getting any money out of them.

Excellent - Vintage
The piece is in virtually "like new" condition. There might be a few minor scratches, but nothing significant.
Very Good - Vintage
The piece may have some minor finish issues, but probably does not warrant refinishing or reupholstering.
Good - Vintage
The piece has some obvious flaws and probably could be refinished or reupholstered, but is useable as-is.
Excellent - Refinished
The piece has been refinished or reupholstered and has no significant flaws to report.
Very Good - Refinished
The piece has been refinished, but still retains some flaws.
