Guadagnini Violin Per Label

 History:  Violin has been in our family since receiving upon the death of my great grandfather in 1981.  He died at the age of 105 and played this violin frequently.  Upon his death it was given to my mother and has been storage since then.  The violin is approx 23 7/8 long overall and the body is approx 13 7/8 inches.  Upon removing from its wooden case, we have left the violin as is. One string is broken and the bow horse hair has deteriorated over time. Inside the violin is a label that we can partially get pictures of.  The label includes the possible name of Guadagnini (we cannot make out first name).  On the next line we can make out fecit Taurini and on the next line it appears to be Deidini.  There is also a symbol: G followed by a pic of what appears to be a flower G. There does not appear to be any cracks and the glue appears in good condition.   The bridge has been released to reduce tension on the three remaining attached strings.  We are careful as to not disturb the label due to the age.  We can verify that it is the original label based upon our family history associated with this instrument.

The wooden case has some cracks in it and over the years the lining has deteriorated. The case is approx 30 7/8 inches long and 9 inches wide. 

The bow is marked Tourte and is approx 28 7/8 inches long.  There is a box of resin labeled "RAO William Lewis and Son, Chicago".  It appears to be a silver mount with mother of pearl and has an octagonal shaft.  The bow is in fine shape.

We estimate that it is not an original Guadagnini but one made by one of his followers.  It appears that it is playable and a fine collectors item based upon advice received from other music oriented sources.   We keep trying to take pics and will update if possible.
