Accurately locate nut string slots for guitar and bass.
This laminated card is printed on both sides. 6, 7 & 12 string guitar template on one side and 4 & 5 string bass template on the other.
The string spacings were computer generated to provide equal gaps between the strings, not equal spaces between the centerline of the strings, for a variety of nut widths. This setup is important and is used by most professional guitar luthiers and manufacturer's.
The nut blank should be worked to the same width of the neck. Simply lay the nut on the template where the ends of the nut terminate at the outer dashed lines. These outer lines will allow for a 1/8" gap from the outer strings to the nut end. The 1/8" gap is an industry standard but can be adjusted to suit your personal preference. Mark the nut at each line. Cut each nut slot on the center of the mark.
