This sweet little dish was turned on my lathe from a piece of Maple that has a little bit of burl on one side. After I finished with the shape of the dish I removed it from the lathe and drew out a picture of a cherry blossom tree. Step by step I carved out each section and fill with a combination of semi precious stone, pearl & abalone shell. Then the piece is put back on the lathe to smooth and finish. Very pretty piece. To set it off I also created a thick abalone edge. This one measures 5 1/2 inches accross and has a nice curve to it. The name on this one is Falling Beauties, the piece is signed and dated. I always wanted to try this and was a bit intimidated by it, I'm glad I finally decided to try it, the end result is worth the work! Thanks for looking!
