Hugely popular during the late '30's through the mid-'50's period of the Golden Age, Hawaiian cloth dolls all have a folk art vibe whether made by professional doll artists like Thelma Taylor or by unknown craftspeople. We believe this rare clothie was made by Elsie Krassas because we have a 1948 photo ad in Paradise of the Pacific showing an almost identical Krassas doll. Our cloth tutu is entirely hand painted (face) and hand crafted, including her Hawaiian print cotton mu'u mu'u. The mu'u mu'u has a lei print and the legend "For you a lei". She wears a '40's crepe paper neck lei and carries several crepe lei. Her woven lauhala hat is a waiwai and features a headband of crepe paper tropical flowers, yarn hair. There's a slight fade on the right hand top of the dress, otherwise this rare clothie is in excellent condition. She stands nearly 13". High. Please view our other Hawaiiana auctions. Mahalo.
