Set includes Long Island’s 80-foot octagonal Sands Point Lighthouse, dating to 1809 and known for its distinctive brown stone construction. It was once owned by William Randolph Hearst, who used it to throw lavish parties for his friends. The Cape May Lighthouse, at the southern tip of New Jersey, has been in operation since 1859, and is visited by over a hundred thousand tourists a year. Baltimore Harbor Lighthouse in Chesapeake Bay was completed in 1908, and is only accessible by boat. It is operated by solar power today, but in 1964 it was fitted with a small, experimental atomic reactor, becoming the first and only lighthouse ever powered by nuclear energy.
