We are offering a vintage, relatively rare Book about the genesis of the Civil War Titled " HISTORY OF THE CIVIL WAR IN THE UNITED STATES/ PART FIRST " by Samuel M Schmucker. It was Published by Bradley & Co of Philadelphia, Pa. in 1862. We are offering this Book in as found condition with no restorations. We will not offer an assessment regarding condition because we are not book collectors, and therefore are not familiar with the accepted standards used by the book collecting community. Instead, we'll simply try to describe this Book's condition in as straightforward a way as possible. So, here goes. The Cover appears to be Leather, and while there is some warping ( particularly the Front Cover ), the Binding is Tight and in Good shape. The Cover's surface evidences minor scuffing, and there is a small 1/2 " tear at the lower left corner of the Front Cover, near the Spine. The Cover's edges show the greatest wear. The Front and Back Covers, as well as the Spine, are liberally Embossed with decoration, much of it in the Gothic style. The center of the Front Cover is embellished with a Gilt Eagle. The Pages are intact, all 512 of them. They have no tears and none of them are defaced. There is scattered foxing throughout, much of it relatively light, but some of it significant. This Book is illustrated with 13 Engravings ( by our count ), many of them of Dramatic and Compelling battle scenes. Several Illustrations retain their Onionskin protective covers.
