HORIMASA is a collection of color & monochrome, full page illustrations, sketches and photos from Gunma's tebori Master, Horimasa. This book weighs in at 228 pages. It is nice and big (B4 size - appx. 10" x 14") and include artwork he's done over the last 2 years. Horimasa's work is stunning. His lines are incredibly clean and color use is brilliant. That he's studied the masters of traditional ukiyo-e is evident in his work but these are not reproductions of the same recycled Kuniyoshi and Kyosai imagery. He has a refreshingly different style and approach to traditional Japanese iconography that is first class. This book include an awesome variety of Japanese iconography, lots of samurai, oni, goblins, tigers, goddesses, Hannya, dragons, a brilliant lady with an octopus, Koi, Foo Dogs, frog....it has a little bit of everything. I have gone through these images and each time something new catches my eye...skulls in his waves, squid on a kimono robe...it is total Japanophile eye candy. It is softcover, 228 pages each with full gave imagery. It was crafted with the tattoo artist and enthusiast in mind but would be great for any enthusiast of Japanese art and imagery.
