This half sheet is from the original 1958 release of HORROR OF DRACULA (not a re-issue or a duplicate). This half sheet is a favorite among serious collectors as a result of it's intense, jade background (as opposed to the mundane aquamarine color that was applied to the one sheet). One of the finest renderings ever conceived for a Hammer classic (over 50 years ago, the poster images were partial catalysts for controversy, prompting civic watchdogs to chastise the cleavage and violence). Film historians concur that HORROR OF DRACULA is Hammer studio's best pairing of Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee (as a sentimental footnote, it's worth mentioning that the actors bonded in real life; upon Mr. Cushing's passing, Lee eulogized his late friend by reflecting, "I don't want to sound gloomy, but, at some point of your lives, every one of you will notice that you have in your life one person, one friend whom you love and care for very much...you can call that friend, and from the very first maniacal laugh or some other joke you will know who is at the other end of that line...And then when that person is gone, there will be nothing like that in your life ever again"). Excellent shape, no creases; the HORROR OF DRACULA poster will be dispatched in a tube |
