Have fun making this winter wonderland rag quilt top in a matter of hours.  Follow our placemat guide to make your quilt top look exactly as ours in photo above or play around with the blocks to form a pattern or color scheme of your own.  Finished quilt top size is 51" x 68".  Kit contains 48 flannel, pre-fringed 10" blocks, pattern, 8 pre-cut snowflakes appliques and 4 pre-cut teapot appliques -- everything you need to make the quilt top as shown above.  The machine die-cut fringing of these large squares are specially designed to achieve the level of fullness and beauty only found in professional rag quilts.  Pattern included for two easy ways to stitch rag quilts - the frayed edges provide a chenille look & there’s no quilting to do. Once this applique quilt is pieced, you’re done!

Rag quilts can be stitched 2 different ways.  You can sew all your squares together to make your quilt top first, then add a sheet of batting and backing, and stitch together.  Or, you can sew pairs of squares together (with or without batting between) thereby forming your front and back of quilt at the same time.   Our quilt in the photo above was stitched in pairs using solid green pre-fringed flannel blocks for the back side.  These are also available in our store for your convenience if you choose to make your rag quilt the same way.  Click on link below to find.

                     

  You may sandwich our precut cotton batting squares between blocks for an even thicker, warmer quilt as shown in example photo above.   Flannel fabric is already very thick and does not need batting, but this is a personal preference.  If you want to do this you will need 8" batting squares for the blocks in this kit.   Rag quilts are the latest trend in quilting. They are a quick, fun and offer a refreshing break from traditional quilting!  Rag quilts are great for picnics, in the car, while snuggling up in front of TV, over the back of a chair or as a throw over the bottom of the bed.  Try one and see how much fun making your own quilt can be!
