HOW TO BUILD STEAM ENGINES MOTORS - STEAM MODELER PLANS

Steam engines were used as the prime mover in pumping stations, locomotives, steam ships, traction engines, steam lorries and other road vehicles.

They were essential to the Industrial Revolution and saw widespread commercial use driving machinery in factories and mills, although most have since been superseded by internal combustion engines and electric motors.

There are those that still admire those beautiful machines from our history. These individuals enjoy building and operating models of steam engines and machines in their spare time.

This is a huge collection of 13 PDF files on one CD. It covers all types of steam engines and machines, sure to please the model builder.

2 1/2 HP FLASH STEAM MODEL PLANE MOTOR AVIATION PLANS

Model making was a famous occupation (hobby) in the late 1800's and early 1900's in America and abroad. The average American model maker was not very familiar with the operation and construction of flash steam plants.

The first part of this document, which originates from the early 1900's, details the methods of operation and general features of construction for these unique power plants.

In addition, this document also contains plans to build a flash steam plant for large model airplanes. This power plant will produce 2 1/2 HP of power and was considered, at the time, to be an advancement in powering model aeroplanes.

This little slice of modelling history will be a handy addition to the modern model-builders digital collection.

A SODA POWERED STEAM ENGINE MODELERS PLAN DETAILS

This document details a Mr. Honigmann's invention of the fireless working of steam engines by means of a solution of hydrate of soda—NaO HO—in water has progressed so steadily towards practical success that it is reasonable to expect its application before long in many cases of locomotion where the chimney is felt to be a nuisance.

The invention is based upon the discovery that solutions of caustic soda or potash and other solutions in water, which have high boiling points, liberate heat while absorbing steam, which heat can be utilized for the production of fresh steam.

This is a beautifully illustrated and written document that fully details the workings of this soda engine. It'd make a great modelers project, a science class project or a scouting troop activity.

Imagine this awesome engine as a scale model.... if you've got the time and skill required to convert the plans to a scale, this is your plan! If not, it'd still make a super addition to a collection of documents... or a huge project to undertake, should you decide to build it full-size.

BUILD A MODEL SLIDE CRANK STEAM ENGINE - MODELERS PLANS

The early 1900's was a time when many amusing scientific experiments, challenging engineering problems and fun toys to play with were built at home. There simply wasn't a mall or big box shop to get things from.

This opened up the average model engineer to many opportunities to create new machines and recreate old. This particular design of engine is really the fore-runner of the "speedy" class of engines, having been build before the slide crank engine was designed.

It's a simple engine, but it'll be a very cool addition, once built, to your "toy" collection.

Teach kids and adults the principles of steam power with it... awesome!

BUILD A MODEL TWIN CYLINDER MODEL STEAM ENGINE VINTAGE

This is a beautifully executed model Twin Cylinder Engine plan. It is fully illustrated, pictured and described in this digital plan. The designers created this model after the Westinghouse high speed staionary steam engines used in driving electric generators for lighting circuits.

It is simple in design, serviceable in operation and presents no great difficulties in construction.

For the modeler, this early 1900's plan will offer a rewarding project that makes a wonderful power plant for a model boat between three and five feet long. In such an application, it'll deliver considerable speed and power. It was also determined to be a reliable and consistent runner, making it a real gem of a plan.

HORIZONTAL SLIDE VALVE ENGINE - NICE BUILDING PLANS

The engine illustrated in this document will give sufficient scope for energy and requires handines with drill and soldering iron. The writer made an engine of the same kind, differing only from that shown in the design of the crosshead guides, without the assistance of a lathe, except for turning the piston and fly wheel -- the last bought in the rough. Files, drills, taps, a hack saw, and a soldering iron did all the rest of the work.

Solder plays so important a part in the assembling of the many pieces of the engine that, if the machine fell into the fire, a rapid disintegration would follow. But in actual use the engine has proved very satisfactory; and if not such as the highly-skilled model-maker with a well-equipped workshop at his command would prefer to expend his time on, it will afford a useful lesson in the use of the simpler tools.

Under 50 lbs. of steam it develops sufficient power to run small electric-lighting installation, or to do other useful work on a moderate scale.

MANUFACTURE & MANAGEMENT OF STEAM ENGINES EVERY CLASS

A steam engine is an external combustion heat engine that makes use of the heat energy that exists in steam, converting it to mechanical work. Steam engines were once used as the prime mover in pumps, locomotives, steam ships, traction engines, steam lorries and other road vehicles. They were essential to the Industrial Revolution.

Steam turbines, technically a type of steam engine, are still widely used for generating electricity, but older types have been almost entirely replaced by internal combustion engines and electric motors.

There are some still in use, and these engines need to be maintained or repaired at some point. This is a beautiful manual to help you do that.... or to build a new steam engine of your own.

SIMPLE SINGLE-ACTION STEAM ENGINE WORKING MODEL PLANS

This is a super cool document that gives a very detailed explaination and illustrations of a simple steam engine model.

This is a modelers dream plan and a very fun project for any science class, scouting troop or a unique summertime activity at home.

The construction of this steam engine is simple and requires no difficult lathe work; in fact the whole of the work may be done on a very ordinary foot lathe.

The engine is necessarily single-acting, but it is effective nevertheless, being about 1-20 H.P., with suitable steam supply. It is of sufficient size to run a foot lathe, scroll saw, or two or three sewing machines

BUILD A MODEL TWIN CYLINDER STEAM POWER MARINE ENGINE

This is a beautifully executed model Twin Cylinder Marine motor plan. It is fully illustrated, pictured and described in this digital document plan, which was originally created by the famous London model engineering firm of Whitney in City Road.

While this model is not recommended as a project for the dabbler or very novice, its construction will be delightfully simple for the worker who's got a lathe and knows how to use it.

For the modeler, this early 1900's plan will offer a rewarding project that, when attached to a steam or other power plant will burst into life.

Kids of all ages will be fascinated by the workings of this nifty little machine. For the mechanical or science teacher and student, this is a superb example of early 20th century technology in miniature.
