My Story (early lessons)

• in 2002 I obtained a very large collection of Life magazines in excellent condition, which sparked my interest in these super magazines. What before had been dry facts in history books now came to life (no pun intended) in the great stories and fantastic pictures of the events of the world. I was fascinated with the incredible advertising and the public’s perception of world events and local happenings. However, keeping 1500-1600 magazines in my home didn’t make sense (at the time).
  
• to recover my costs of obtaining the collection, I decided to start selling some right away. Wow! --- after the first two weeks of auctions … my cost for the entire collection had been fully recovered and I still had well over 1300 copies left! I was thinking they might be worth a few dollars each and yet some were selling for $25 - $50 an issue! If I was not “sold” on Life Magazines before, I sure was then!
• it also became obvious to me fairly quickly that some of the issues got a much higher price from collectors. This was the beginning of my real education about Life magazines and their value. Before just listing a bunch at $2 - $3 each, I researched previous sales, so I would not be ‘giving them away’. Was that greedy or smart? When I started selling the ones for $10-$30 each that I would have sold for $2-$3 each a few weeks earlier, it sure answered that question.
  
• since then I have sold 1000’s of copies of Life magazine on ebay and locally to collectors, people wanting to celebrate special days and to others who want to cut them up for the fabulous vintage advertising. I have learned a great deal about what influences the prices of these collectibles and also what may be very desirable in the coming years. I believe (and am proof of it) that if you know what to look for and how to buy and sell properly, you can make money buying/collecting/selling Life Magazines.

Why I Believe Life Magazines In General Will Increase Greatly In Value

• these are weekly magazines with a one time limited circulation
• baby boomers are becoming collectors and coming into the age where their disposable income will be spent on their own hobbies and passions instead focusing on their children’s needs.
