How the babies begin life... Each baby starts out as beautiful doll awaiting to be reborn. Your dedication and time commitment in this process, will give you and your baby the most amazingly realistic skin-tone. Bathing can be a time consuming process; it is needed to bring color to your babies skin, so patience is a virtue. For the newbies, there are some less risky and less messy ways to bring color to your new baby that we will discuss in the bathing section.
REALISTIC Hair... Custom Babies can have the most AMAZINGLY and Realistic head of hair imaginable. The mohair you should use is the more expensive Premium mohair. This mohair is Silky Smooth, with the feel & look of real babies hair. Micro-Rooted Hair... Hand Rooting & Sculpting your babies hair, using Special Techniques, is a VERY Time Consuming job, but you will feel the end result is well worth it. It leaves the most Amazingly, Beautiful & Realistic head of hair imaginable. There are many ways to root your babies hair, using slight angles and circular motions. It all depends on the time commitment you are will to put in. For the novice, Wispy Wigs are another option. The choices are all yours to make.
Uniquely Designed, Custom Cloth Body & Options... You may chose to change the body of your baby. So many options now exist for those on a low budget, and of course there are many types of bodies as well as material available. You will need to weight the body to have a very natural, healthy baby feel. Being very careful to distribute her/his weight properly, from head to toe, with fine beads of plastic and/or Vinyl. You should use premium stuffing in your creation and, if desired, apply new Factory manufactured Baby-Fat portions or pellets. All the extra attention & details that you will have in designing & weighting the baby's body will enabled her/him to be the most unbelievably realistic & cuddly feeling baby.
 
Breathtakingly, Realistic Skin Tone, with custom Life-Like Hand applied Features...
In order to make sure that the babies coloring is as perfect as possibly and very true to life, you will go beyond the bathing process. Your baby will not be merely color washed, you will meticulously blend with hand applied colors inside and out with specially blended pigments... Each one of the baby features that you will chose to custom apply, highlight, or shade will give your baby that natural healthy glow that will make him or her unique.
You might consider to provide very realistic, and subtle veins, in all the appropriate areas, where the babies skin is naturally thinner. Or you might consider a Pressure Beating Heart (inserted, or in a belly pouch). Or a heating pouch to keep you and the baby warm. These extra details are fun, and just add that little extra touch to the baby's Realism & Happiness.
 
All the other Necessities... You will give your Baby a manicure with a special treatment of sealers, that leave them transparent, and very natural & realistic looking. Various options are available from French Tips, to Natural Tips, to glossing only (for the boy babies). You can even go beyond the normal to create little cuticles marks at the base of their nails. Their lips will need to be sealed to have a more natural & beautiful look. For Breathing babies, you will sculpt the inside of the nose. And only at the request of the parents, should you open the babies mouth. It is preferred to leave it intact, in order to not compromise the integrity of the vinyl. For those babes that are closed mouth, an option of a magnetic pacifier is always available for parents that are "pace-maker" free.

Jeannine has been reborning collectible dolls since 2002. She reborns portrait babies, remembrance babies, collectibles, lookalikes and heirloom dolls; she also reborns dolls for pleasure and play.
She has helped many adults and children of all ages around the world become reborn doll adoptive parents and now has over 300 adoptions from her nursery She has hosted reborn birthday parties and has saved many a “poor boy” reborn within her reborn hospital.
Jeannine has been teaching workshops & providing instruction for various subjects for over 20 years. She has over 20 books, fact sheets, and pattern books published using various reborn techniques. Her instruction style has been noted as fun as well as informative, so have fun and enjoy the art. |
