Little Joe II Qualification Test Vehicle - April to August 1963
The Little Joe II qualification test vehicle was launched on its first flight from White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, Area # 3. The mission objectives were to prove the Little Joe II rocket's capability as an Apollo CSM test vehicle and to determine base pressures and heating on the rocket.
Little Joe II QTV (Qualification Test Vehicle) was the first flight of the Little Joe II rocket. It was launched from White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico on August 28, 1963 from Apollo-Little Joe Launch Complex 36, Area number 3. The spacecraft consisted of a dummy launch escape system and a dummy command and service module. Most objectives were achieved. The lone failure was a malfunction in the destruct system.

The RECOMMENDED-NOT INCLUDED Aerotech G40-4W rocket motor provides an excellent flight and reaches an altitude of approximately 500-700 feet. This model contains no engines, motors or pyrotechnics. This rocket motor is available from numerous sources on line and does not require any certifications to purchase. They are available from numerous sources such as Red Arrow Hobbies, Aerotech, etc...

Kit does not include parachutes, but does list some economical sources for chutes. Kit does require a high degree of modeling and finishing skills. This is not a beginner kit, but is an excellent chance for the modeller who is wanting to step up to a scale medium powered model.
