The
perfect gift for someone who has everything. I painted
this from life at the Kingwood Center in Mansfield,
Ohio. It was an awfully windy day and a real challenge
to capture the scene as clouds scudded quickly across
the sky, changing the light from one minute to the next.
It took every bit of knowledge I have about painting to
finish this piece before it was time to leave. Several
nice people who were strolling through the grounds
helped me by holding the painting while I took breaks-
it would have blown right over if it wasn't held down,
as several of the heavy wooden benches actually did.
I
think I did a great job capturing the warmth and
invitation of the lovely brick building and the cobblestones. This is truly
one of my best plein air pieces, with large
impressionistic strokes of paint and a liveliness that
just can't be captured in a studio painting. Scroll down to see detail shots. Questions
about "plein air painting" and what it is? Do
a search on Google and you will be surprised to find out
how many groups there are out there that focus on
painting the landscape. I was in the company of about 30
artists at Kingwood when I painted this piece.
Your
satisfaction is guaranteed. If you're not completely
thrilled with the workmanship and quality I will be
happy to buy it back.

Thanks
for viewing my work. I appreciate your notes. :) Keep
them coming. Many of you are kind enough to send me a
note when you come across a piece you like, even if
you can't afford to bid right then. I love your notes
and I thank you for them. I try to answer each one
within 24 hours. Keep in mind that most of my works
are available as limited edition prints in my store if
you missed the opportunity to bid on an original.
Please add me to your favorites to receive regular
updates of my current auctions.
When
you purchase or win the auction for this painting you
will also receive a Certificate of Authenticity,
signed by the artist. Original art is a great
investment but don't buy my work for that reason- buy
it because you love it and you want your house to look
classy. My house is so full of paintings it looks like
a museum and while I'm not saying the look is for
everyone it does work for me. :)
This
is a quality oil painting painted with traditional
methods. It is an original oil painting by Northwest
Ohio artist, Nora Sallows, and is sure to increase in
value as her paintings become more difficult to
acquire. Check out Nora's eBay
Page for a link to her web page and read her blog
to learn more about the artist and her work. learn

To
would be imitators: This painting is my original idea,
composition and design and it is copyrighted. It is
against eBay policy to pirate artist's work and I will
report violators. There has been a recent increase in
foreign copy painters stealing images and re-painting
them (poorly) to sell as their own. Don't be fooled -
ask for a Certificate of Authenticity- take note of
whether the auction is written in legible English.
Poor grammar is one of the first clues that you may be
dealing with copyists. Of course another obvious clue
is if they advertise "Rembrandt" and
"Vermeer" paintings. Folks, these artists
are dead, they have been for centuries and you would
be buying a poor quality reproduction with exactly NO
intrinsic value. The work is not original to the
artist creating it and therefore not a good
investment.
I
use archival oils and quality canvas and panels- NOT
cardboard painting panels. Your painting is designed
to last a lifetime (or longer). This is a GENUINE
original oil painting, not a copy of another work or a
poor reproduction of a master's painting. Every stroke
is mine. Original art is a great investment that is
never worth less than what you paid for it. Monitors
display colors differently. An oil painting is hard to
photograph due to the reflective properties of the
paint. I can assure you the actual painting looks
better than the image on screen, although I have done
my best to represent color as accurately as possible.Purchase with
confidence- I have 100% feedback and my paintings are
rising in value.
Please
keep in mind that if you use BUY IT NOW to purchase
this painting there could be a delay of up to seven
days before the painting is ready to ship, depending
on how soon it is purchased following the listing.
This is due to the inherent drying properties of oil
paint. I will not mail a wet painting!

WHAT
IS THE SECRET TO A GOOD PAINTING?
I
'm glad you asked! In my opinion a good painting is about
something. EVEN IF THE PAINTING IS A PORTRAIT it should
still tell the viewer something about what the artist
thought as they interpreted their subject. Did the artist
choose to emphasize the person's beauty, their clothing,
or their personality? If you're looking at a landscape and
you can't seem to look away it is because the artist has
grouped the arrangement on their canvas in a way that is
intriguing and pleasing. This is not an accident; a
painting with a pleasing design and composition will hold
our attention much longer than one that is painted
"just because". Here is another clue: Good
paintings can be converted to gray-scale in an image
editor and still be found interesting! Why? Because the
artist has paid close attention to the values and the
composition. We're all familiar with the abundance of copy
artists on the internet who will turn out Van Goghs and
Rembrandts (well --copies anyway) for a small sum of
money. What are we really purchasing if we do buy Van
Gogh's Starry Night? It is not an original-- maybe it is a
good copy, but we don't have a one of a kind item and
nothing can compare to the original so at best we have an
imitation that will never be worth more than we paid for
it because the original hangs in the MoMA in NY.
ALLA
PRIMA- all at once- it means painting wet into wet. The
goal is to finish while the painting is wet. It's not
always possible and sometimes you have to go back and
rework a few areas but the painting is probably 90%
complete after the first session. Purchasing artwork on
the internet is difficult under the best of circumstances
but is virtually impossible if you can't see what you're
buying. This is why I've made every attempt to show the
detail in this painting with extreme close-ups. I took
these pictures with a Canon 8.3 mega pixel camera outside
in the shade so the color would be accurate. I can assure
you the painting looks better in person. Serious bidders
may request an image to be emailed directly to them.

YOU KNOW?
Frequently
Asked Questions
Q: When is payment due/expected? A: Payment is due on the 3rd day after the auction ends.
If payment is not received by the 7th day, a dispute will be filed
with eBay and the item will be re-listed.
Q: When will my item ship? A: I ship twice a week. Items that are paid for by Monday
at 4:00 pm will be shipped Tuesday. Items paid for by Wednesday at
4:00 pm ship on Thursday. Very rarely a painting will sell before
the paint has had enough time to dry thoroughly. This can happen if
the paint is exceptionally thick or if I place a BUY IT NOW price on
an auction and it sells immediately. In this instance I will
communicate this to you, the buyer, and ship your painting as soon
as it is safe to do so. Sometimes I ship on Saturdays but if your
payment is received on Saturday or Sunday, your package will usually
ship on Tuesday.
Q: Has my item been shipped? A: If you have paid via Paypal, you will receive an
automatic email from our Paypal notifying you of the shipment and
providing you with a tracking number. Please note that USPS does not
provide in-line tracking and the confirmation number is only valid
for the purpose of confirming time and delivery. UPS will provide
more detailed shipping information.
Q: When will I receive my package? A: All packages are shipped Priority Mail or United
Parcel Service Ground. USPS estimates delivery time as 2-3 days from
shipment date and UPS guarantees six day delivery. Sometimes an item
will take longer to ship. An oil painting that sells immediately
after I list it may not be dry enough to ship and could require an
additional 7-10 days time to cure. Please allow additional time for
Giclee prints and canvases as they require an additional seven days
to receive from the printer.
Q:
Do you ship to APO/FPO, Guam or Puerto Rico Addresses? A: As long as you have a CONFIRMED and Verified Paypal
Address the item will be mailed to this address. I cannot accept any
other form of payment for these shipments.
Q: I live near you / I will be traveling in
your area, can I pick up my item in person?
A: Yes. Please email me your phone number and I will make
arrangements for the pick-up.
Q: I tried to bid on your item and I get an
error message telling me I am not authorized. A: I have used the eBay system to block bidders with more
than two unpaid item strikes in the last 30 days or who have a
history of negative feedback from other sellers. This may block a
few honest bidders who genuinely want to make the purchase but have
received negative feedback or have very old feedback problems, from
bidding. If you send me a note through the eBay ASK THE SELLER A
QUESTION form and explain your position I will add you to a list of
pre-approved bidders.
If
you have a question or concern that is not covered here please feel
free to email me through the eBay CONTACT THE SELLER form. I answer
all questions within 24 hours.
