ITEM DESCRIPTION -- Antique FRENCH COPPER Antique LONG HANDLED  Saucepan or POT
** Please note that we have numerous vintage and antique copper pots and pans, all from a prominent estate (provenance below).  Please see our other listings for more copper pieces and for more from this important American family.** This listing is for:    A very high quality, very large antique 6 quart French copper sauce pan (or pot, as we call them in the U.S.) .  It has an extra long copper handle that has a button hole at the end for hanging.  This handle is attached to the pot with a heart shaped end and handmade rivets.  This pot is put together with dovetails (see close up photos), the sign of high quality antique copper.  You can see the dovetails quite clearly if you click to enlarge the photos.  The top of the pot has a rolled edge -- another great sign of quality.   This pot dates to the late 19th century.  It measures 10" in diameter X 5" High and the handle is quite long -- 11" long.  It holds 6 quarts.  This is outstanding French copper cookware, made of heavy gauge copper that has a fine, rich patina (we have only given it a light buffing in order to preserve its patina).  It is a genuine kitchen treasure!   Note that of all the copper we listed this week, this is one of the most valuable. Condition	Good estate condition.   No significant dents - a few dimples commensurate with age and use.  The pots and handles are in good condition with a terrific patina.  All original.  Some minor utensil marks on the tinning which are commensurate with use but the tinning has not worn off.  Please click to enlarge photos to examine.  All our items are used or antique and, as such, have the normal amount of wear and tear that's commensurate with their age.
Provenance	This beautiful piece comes from the estate of the butler to the legendary Whitney family (the Jock Whitney family).  Many years ago, Mrs. Whitney was a customer of ours in our former antique shop -- 20 years later we found some of the things we originally sold her, among the contents of her butler's estate!  It is our understanding that a large portion of the butler's possessions came from the family -- either left to him in Mrs. Whitney's will, or gifted to him by the family.  This very large collection of copper unquestionably did come from the main house -- these are all high quality, antique heavy French copper pots and were probably purchased from an antique shop for their decorative value and most likely not used by the Whitney's for cooking.      TCP0309L060907060
