PORTRAIT PAINTING VENERABLE SCHOLAR DULAURENS 1923 ENORMOUS

Absolutely superb original enormous portrait painting from Belgium of a scholar writing a letter at his desk, using a quill pen and ink. Done in pencil and charcoal, on thick paper collated to cardboard and an attached heavy thick linen mat. Signed L. DULAURENS and dated Lille 1923 by the artist. Annotated with a dedication by the artist to the scholar whose portrait this is: "à Monsieur Marchal, avec mon plus cordial souvenir" (to Mr. Marchal with my most cordial memories). Executed with consummate skill, with more than a touch of realism, this is a remarkable portrait exuding quality and serenity. Don't miss it.

• The overall size, including the mat, measures approximately 23.5 inches x 31 inches.
• The painting size only measures approximately 17.5 inches x 34.5 inches.

CONDITION: By "antique " we mean over 100 years of age. By "vintage"we mean between 50 and 100 years of age. This item is made of matter and it is OLD; it is dated 1923 and this means it is NOT new. There are signs of age and usage, including but not limited to minor browning, toning and foxing of the paper, surface wear and mat. There may also be signs of age and usage that we missed because we aren't specifically trained to see them. The condition is good, there isn't anything obviously functionally wrong with it, and the condition is exactly as shown in the photos; please look at all the photos carefully and read this description carefully. This has not been examined microscopically. We have not taken this apart or put it back together, we've not subtracted anything from it nor added anything to it that was not already there when we got it. We have not cleaned it. It is impossible to divine exactly what information a buyer might want. It is the buyer's responsibility to carefully scrutinize a purchase before buying.
