Presented here for consideration is a large and prestigious Royal Doulton Gum Trees “A” Sandwich Tray. The Gum Trees “A” series was introduced in 1929 and it was withdrawn in the early 1940’s.

Printed by hand in black is the pattern number “D.5506”. Impressed into the base is the date code 11-34: November 1934.

It has the black stamped under glaze maker’s mark of the style that was in use in this period.

  • Dimensions

This tray measures a HUGE 33 cm (13") by 15.6 cm (5.25").

  • Condition

It is in EXCELLENT used condition; there are NO cracks, stains or repairs and NO crazing. This tray has had some use so there is some minor scratching to the surface of the glaze – nothing really – I really only mention for complete accuracy. There is also a tiny nick out of the underside of the trays rim – this nick is under the glaze so it is a production flaw and not actual damage.

I just love this very Aussie pattern, it really captures the essence of rural Australian. This is a prize well worth the owning; this is the first time I have seen this particular shape in this series.
