CUT SIGNATURES OF

Humphrey Bogart
and
  Lauren Bacall Bogart

This is such a unique piece. I have rarely seen both signatures on one cut and with Lauren Bacall signing as Lauren Bacall Bogart - a great one of a kind item
.

This item measures  27" x 21" and is mounted with special die cut acid free double mat, with tru-guard uv glass, in brushed sliver wooden frame, ready to hang.

BOGART AND BACALL

They met on the Warner Brothers’ lot. The year was 1944.  "I just saw your screen test", Bogart said to Bacall. "I think we're going to have a lot of fun together” and so it began.

Once director Howard Hawks had Bogart's approval on Bacall as co-star, filming began on "To Have and Have Not".  With advice, tips and a lot of kidding around, veteran actor Bogart took great care to put the very nervous newcomer at ease.

Signed in pen by both on back of Seamen's prayer paper.
Cut Signature measures 4" x 3" on beige paper

It soon became apparent to all involved that the two were falling in love, on screen and off.  Bacall was 19, Bogart was 44 - one of the world's leading movie stars and on his third marriage.  His wife, actress Mayo Methot, was an alcoholic given to jealous rages.
Soon, it appeared she had good cause.

Three weeks into the movie, Bacall recounts, I was sitting in my dressing room.  Bogie came in to say goodnight and tilted my head up and gave me a kiss.  He'd never done that before.

He asked me for my phone number and I gave it to him.  From then on I would get phone calls, occasionally at 3 A.M. My mother was furious:  "Where do you think you're going so late at night?  That man, he's a married man!" But, I was very headstrong. When I wanted to go, I went."

Filming on "To Have and Have Not" was completed, and upon its release, Bacall became an overnight sensation.  Bogart had several times separated from his wife only to be drawn back by her threats of violence, either to herself or to Bacall.

When shooting on "The Big Sleep" began its two stars were in constant turmoil and finding the road to happiness very rocky indeed.

However, by early May of l945, Mayo Methot was forced to face the futility of resistance and was granted a divorce.  On May 21, l945, at writer Louis Bromfield's farm in Ohio, Bogart and Bacall were married.  In 1949 a son was born, Stephen, and in l952 a daughter, Leslie.
Life was good for the Bogart’s.  It seemed they had all that two
 people could wish for.

Late in l955, Bogart was diagnosed with cancer.

Although he grew weaker as the months passed, Bogart still "held court" in their home - he and Bacall receiving friends for
a few drinks and some good conversation.

But Bogart lost this final battle.

He died early on the morning of January 14, l957.

At 33, Lauren Bacall was left to go on alone.
