Ham Radio, HP 410B Vacuum tube voltmeter ,VTVM

Up for Auction: Hewlett Packard VTVM Model 410B. This is a vacuum tube design precision measuring instrument: its features  include;  a wide measurement range, (AC, DC and Ohms), a very high input impedance on DC and AC ranges, easy to use and very rugged. Measurement Ranges are: 1 to 1000VDC, 1 to 300VAC,( AC Ranges use a "active probe" with a design bandwidth of approximately 700mhz), Resistance Ranges are:  .2 ohm to 500 megohm. The HP 410B is one of only approximately 3 instruments on the planet that use an Active RF probe.  Units have been overhauled, filter capacitor replaced, other capacitors replaced as needed, test lead assembly rebuilt, range resistors checked, AC cord replaced if needed , rubber feet replaced if necessary, selenium Ohms Bias rectifier replaced with silicon diode, leather handle replaced if necessary.***NOTE: The leather handle "attach loops" have been removed, repainted and reinstalled with new harware, so if you want to have a HP Original Style (sewn not glued) installed, its an easy matter to merly remove the "attach loops" and install a different leather handle***   Unit repaired and parts replaced as needed.  Cleaned , functionally checked and Calibrated.  AC Diode tube  (active probe) checked, repaired or replaced  as needed.   Hardware replaced as needed. Knobs cleaned and  indices repainted as necessary. Cabinet re-painted.  All units are furnished with  a rebuilt  test lead assembly which consists of:  Common, AC active probe (the probe with the diode tube), Ohms, DC. **** NOTE: AC Probe furnished may be a HP, OR the militarized version , depending on what we have in inventory at the time***

Please  keep in mind that these electronic instruments, regardless of what is done to them, are in some cases 30 years old. That is about 80 in human years.

This instrument has been calibrated using the HP Lab Calibrator designed for this family of ANALOG voltmeters.Resistance ranges are verified using 1% resistors.   

These units are a low cost way to add a very sturdy  VTVM to your test equipment suite, especially if you are repairing or restoring those Boat Anchor Radios. Many Collins repair experts specify this instrument in their repair/alignment procedures. These instruments are easy to use, rugged, easily repairable.

 The 410B is electronically equivalent to the 410C (with some wiring modification the RF Active probe is interchangeable), but doesn't look as "cool".  Design input impedance is 122 megohm on all DC scales, (great for ALC/AGC measurements), AC Active Probe useable to 700mhz.This unit is ideal for a wide variety of electronics troubleshooting including voltage measurement  and ESPECIALLY RF signal tracing using the RF ACtive probe, in both receiver and transmitter RF circuitry .
