Theme: bird or dragon handcarved handleProduct Type: very functional collectable large capacity server
unusual serving spoon: practical use and decorative as well long lasting
We will ship up to 4 for the shipping price of 1. You are buying 1 large Hand carved Buffalo Horn Spoon with Choice of Dragon or Parrot Bird motif  hand carved on the handle.   Around 9" long by 3 to 4" wide. We are running a special this month for All Buffalo Spoons we carry. Normal Retail is: 32.00 TO 35.00. The spoon I am holding has a different handle but I included it here to show the variety of tones that can be found on one Buffalo Horn piece and it also shows the other buffalo horn spoons we carry as a result, we have 5 different kinds.

A Chef buys these from us and uses them to serve appetizers in and it looks great. He also sells them from the restaurant for 35.00 each.

Genuine Buffalo Horn Pacific Tiki Luau Scoop, Rice Spoon, very large and handcarved out of one Buffalo horn: Spoons bear all the different tones and shadows a buffalo horn can have within 1 object: the buffalo material has a beautiful transparency and veins of different browns (when you look at it in the sunlight) reminiscent of turtle shell (what combs used to be made of in the past), and you will notice these nuances in some of the photos displayed here).

These are unique, superb and decorative primitive tools as well as being extremely practical spoons for serving at parties. They wash easily.

These traditional large and elegant Borneo rice serving spoons, all hand-carved with exquisite detail out of real water buffalo horn, are quite trendy and elegant and can be used everyday, as they are in their place of origin, as well as becoming collector or display items of great aesthetic value for your home. Piece was hand-carved very intricately out of one buffalo horn in Indonesia and carries great traditional significance as both the buffalo and rice were essential sources of sustenance for the people, and so revered. The crafting of a rice-scoop from buffalo horn was a testament to the significance of both these forces of nature that the islanders depend on. It is not only an ornamental artifact but so useful if you wish to utilize it (it can serve food and can even go in the dishwasher): for buffets, parties and serving in general because of great practicality, sturdiness and capacity. Some spoons in our store have gorgeous carvings on the handle sculpted with mastery and delicacy. You will be the hit of the party with these and the only one on your block with one as I have never seen them for sale in this country except for the few we have placed in stores and they have sold there between 32.00 and  40.00 dollars. We have different spoons available with different designs as well on a regular base, or ask any question to cheetahdmr@aol.com if you cannot find them in our store.

History on Spoons: Believe it or not, spoons are a fashionable collectible. They are a symbol of civilized life and there are thousands of people who maintain traditional spoon collections. Meatloaf, the singer, collects spoons.
Spoons are easy and international. All kinds of people collect spoons. And it is like stamps collecting, infinite. You can't have them all -- sometimes a picture or a memory has to suffice. Spoons are used in many cultures and have been for centuries. They are interesting because they are hand tools for eating, and eating is usually a good thing! Anything man makes for man’s body is usually done with some style, shape and design, beyond function.
The first spoons were made from seashells. That's why so many metal spoons you pick up have a scallop design on the handle to this day. Some of our coconut wood serving spoons have seashells embedded in the handle for example. That is why Indonesia, Papua New guinea & the remote Trobriands, where we collect our unique spoons and which boasts more than 14,000 islands (and thus plenty of shells), make some of the world's most fascinating spoons, out of either buffalo horn, coconut, bone or mother of pearl (nacre).
Spoons can be made of many things, as we mentioned above: a hunk of coconut shell found curved under the sand, a piece of bone, or seashell or molded clay, animal horn. Gourmets will only eat caviar (sturgeon eggs) from bone or seashell (often abalone) spoons as these materials do not impart any additional flavor to the delicate fish eggs.
Our prices are started very low as we go straight to the source to find these treasures.  We have many collector items available, rare pieces from around the world from antique to more recent, designer accents, precious textiles and textile hangers, gifts, rare antique prints, authentic signed paintings and sculptures available on a regular base, ask if you want to see more.

To see pictures of our unique collection (we collect only rare and unique items from carvings to art), go to this link below and scroll down till you get to the photos, there are a few pages of pictures & text for educational purposes that we were asked to place on this site and we add more weekly whenever we find time. You will find, there, photos of what we collect and sell regularly and the interesting stories behind these items we search for in remote areas of the world.
